Session 7. Integration of the work with iPads in the class II

Dear classmates,

I am Mireia Núñez. In the following lines I aim to report our last ICT class (Integration of the work with iPads in the class II).

Sometimes, revising previous contents can be boring and repetitive. However, there is a good option to make it fun: using response games. We could use some apps like kahoot, b.scocrative, quizizz or nearpod.

Kahoot is an amazing quiz which you can play individually or in a team. You can create your own quizzes or use some that are already done. You need a projector to show the question and then, each student will see the possible answers on their tablets/computers. This app is amazingly useful to revise content, to work on grammar….

Socrative app is very useful because you can see the pupils’ progress and what are they answering. You can use this option to encourage children to answer.

Nearpod app provides you the opportunity to create interactive presentations. You can take a ppt that you already have and make it interactives. Each child would have the presentation synchronised with the one on the main screen. Therefore, when the teacher changes the slide, all the children will also see the change on their screen. Also, another advantage is that you can add some slides with activities such as making a drawing, asking questions… and each student can do them on their tablets.
After that, we talked about class management. We were given some tips to use in order to catch students’ attention or to control what they are doing with their devices. Some of these tips are: flip the screen, iPad’s facing at me, check the multy-task bar…

Moreover, we were supplied with a compilation of educational apps and places to find them (Proyecto Guappis, Eduapps…).

Then, we learnt that not all the apps are suitable for our classes and that we must know how to evaluate an app. Google is huge, so, how can we know what is truly useful? To help us this this tricky job, we were provided with the evaluation criteria we must bear in mind when looking for a new app.

Finally, we worked in groups in order to come up with some activities using an app as the main resource as well as evaluating this app. Here you can see the apps used by each group:

In conclusion, a good idea that summarizes the class is that we were supplied with many resources that we could not have even imagined without the use of new technologies in class.

I hope this report may be useful for you, super teachers!

See you in the next class,

Mireia Núñez
